Friday was the warmest day by far this spring. I headed out to photograph mid-morning without much of a plan.
I meandered north and stopped in Claremont, NH figuring I might do some street photography. Claremont is an old mill town with a population of about 13,000 (the 24th largest municipality in NH). There is much interesting architecture dating from when it was a prosperous mill town but it is long past its prime now. There were few people on the streets despite the nice weather. I did not make any successful photographs there.
Wondering what to do after lunch, I finally decided to point my truck eastward towards ‘The Fells’ on Lake Sunapee in Newbury. The Fells is an old summer estate built on the lakeshore in the early 20th century. It is know for is gardens and plantings which, of course, are only just emerging from winter now. I had never visited before but decided that it might be interesting anyway.
The buildings were still closed for the season and the only people I saw were workers getting the place ready for the season. There were still interesting photos to be made. Hopefully, I’ll go back and brave the crowds this summer when the gardens are in full bloom.
Looking forward to the spring shots soon to arrive from this area. The Fells appears to have many interesting features to photograph. I’m waiting for the start of the Bellforge music season so I can finish off my Medfield State Hospital project. I need to get back there and photograph the cemetery.
