Our trip was focused more on the landscape rather than wildlife. However, I still managed to make a few wildlife photographs, here and there!
The bald eagle photo was made during our whale watching trip on Orcas Island. We saw a number of orcas, including a pair breaching, while out on the boat. However, the regulations require that the boats keep quite a distance from the animals. Thus, I did not get any photos I consider satisfactory and I missed photographing the breach… oh well!
The photo of the raven should probably be titled “Viewpoint Beggar”. We pulled into a roadside pull off along the Ice-fields Parkway in Jasper NP. This raven came moseying up to the car as we got out. I initially ignored the bird to concentrate on the landscape.
However, we eventually noticed that this raven approached every car that pulled in as the occupants exited their vehicle. Clearly this bird was looking for handouts… learned behavior!! Thus, I had to make a portrait of this beggar. The background is out of focus pavement… this birds ‘natural’ environment!!!
The moose was photographed as part of a ‘moose jam’ along a road in Jasper I knew of and experienced ‘bear jams’ and ‘bison jams’ in Yellowstone but a ‘moose jam’ was new to me!!! This photo was made with a 200 mm lens. That is very short for a wildlife photo. However, there were many folks (with their cell phones), much closer (too close, really) than I was.

Great selection of the wildlife along your route. A moose jam, eh? That had to quite the show!!
