This is the last group of photos I have culled from the roughly 2,500 exposures I made during our trip. While ‘out and about’, I am always noticing relatively small things (i.e. ‘details’) in the landscape.
Here are six photos in that genre. All made on Orcas Island. I had not encountered madrone trees before. Their bark and growth habits were fascinating to me.
Fascinating captures. Hmmmm. . . isn’t that “wildflower” what we back East call a dandelion??
That is some strange bark features on that tree for sure.
Sooooo, i can put away the popcorn and beverages since I will NOT be viewing all 2500 images any time soon???
i love madrone trees! I’ve usually seen them with their smooth red bark. I just read this article that comments on why they shed the rough outer bark that you saw: https://2newthings.com/thin-smooth-bark-makes-madrone-tree-trunks-seem-cool-touch/
