Way back in 2011 (i.e fourteen years ago… egad!!!), I began a ‘tradition’ that I call the Adams Dozen. At the end of each year I choose a dozen photos made during the previous year and collect them in one blog post. The name comes from a (probably apocryphal) quote from Ansel Adams that “Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop.”
I must admit that I have missed a few years of this ‘tradition’ (the first was 2012) for reasons unknown. I also missed 2023 and 2024. For 2023, I can’t even find a record that I had selected any images. My Lightroom catalog shown that I selected images for 2024 but I never posted them herein. Why? Who knows… old age maybe?
Anyway, for 2025 I seem to have gotten my act back together. I selected photos several weeks ago and here they are posted.
The last photo probably requires a bit of explanation. André Kertész (1894-1985) was an esteemed Hungarian-American photographer. Back in the 1930s, Kertész made a series of images that he called ‘distortions‘ where he photographed the reflections of nude models in a funhouse mirror.
Back in October my friend Victor and I made a pilgrimage to the Eastman House Museum in Rochester, NY to see an exhibit titled “American, born Hungary: Kertész, Capa, and the Hungarian American Photographic Legacy“. There, on the gallery wall among all of the photos, was ‘the mirror’. I simply could not resist! As you can see though, I kept my clothes on!!!!!
So the tradition continues, imperfections and all…
First and foremost, thanks for being fully dressed for that mirror shot – I’m sure your other followers appreciated that gesture, or lack of. . .
I found my Top Shots in a folder and they go back to 2005 and did not miss a year. It appears all my faculties are still working! I did have some issue with picking my Top Ten so I went for an even dozen until that one year when I could not eliminate one and we are now at the Baker’s Dozen! It’s been a fun challenge with some years finding shots worthy of this distinction is tough while others, it’s a matter of who get’s left off. 2025 was one of the former problems – finding those thirteen.
“Star Island Sunset” is one of my favorites along with that library.
Looking forward to what makes our Top Shots for 2026.
I do miss my website where I did feature my Top Shots. . .
