Several months ago, a good photographer friend of mine died. A couple of weeks ago, his widow invited me to stop by and see what of my friend’s photo gear I would like to have. I ended up with, among other things, a Sony mirror-less camera and several lenses. Thank you Diana.
This gift will allow me to explore the ‘new’ technology which has replaced single lens reflex (SLR) cameras, a design whose heyday is past, but with which I have stubbornly stuck. Actually, it is not really stubbornness so much as having an extensive set of lenses for my Nikon SLRs which are not particularly compatible with mirror-less cameras. (I know that there are adapters but these entail many compromises, most especially autofocus, that I am not willing to make.)
Over the past several days, I have gone out thrice with the longest lens I have for the new-to-me camera mounted to ‘hunt’ dragonflies and familiarize myself with the new system. Well dragonflies have been few and far between recently but I did photograph a few. This afternoon I was completely skunked with regard to odes. Thus, I turned my attention to the always present and mostly static vegetation.
It appears that you and the mirror-less are getting along pretty well! The biggest decision for you will be what to pack when you go out. Whatever it is – i know the results will be fantastic!
