I spent most of the day on Sunday (17 Aug) at the Cornish Fair in Cornish, NH. I arrived about 9:30 AM and headed out the gate towards home about 4 PM.
Last year, I went with my friend Victor on a Saturday because I wanted to photograph the ox pulling events. This year Victor was not available so I went solo. I also decided to go on Sunday for the woodsmen competition and the antique tractor pulling.
The tractor pulling events were pretty staid and therefore not particularly interesting visually. The best events were the kids pulling events with a pedal powered tractor. The faces of determined kids are very photogenic!
I spent the large majority of my time at the woodsmen competition. There were three main types of events: ax throwing, sawing (both chainsaw and two-person cross cuts saws) and hewing. There were many ‘flavors’ of the latter two types.
I successfully resisted most of the typical fair food… eating two hot dogs for lunch and having a lemonade later in the afternoon. I am sure that my physician will be proud even if hot dogs are not exactly on the list of approved comestibles! It was a fun excursion and I’ll plan to go again next year… probably for the oxen or horse pulling events.

Great photo ops here. Liking the poised ax thrower in the ready position! Always amazed how their throws land on the target and not bounce off! And, you used a real camera and color!
I’ll look them over again later
Lots of good action photos. I particularly liked the way you caught the bodies of contestants straininjg and stretching to cut with the two person saws. Those two person saws were my favorites because I could feel the energy. Many pictures very dynamic. The kid’s tractor pull event had some good action shots. Pictures all had good motion and flying sawdust added to the atmosphere. Colors were striking. I missed eating food shots
